Promoting Your Website

Now that you are online you need to promote your website so that others know you exist. Listed below are some popular, and simple, ways to do this.

Discussion Boards
Discussion bards are considered “Daily Promotion” as they are something that should be visited daily. I would recommend finding a few discussion boards that are either related to your website and/or boards that focus on topics you can contribute to. Every discussion board worth visiting prohibits advertising so don’t post new topics advertising your website. Instead put your link inside of your forum signature so that each time you leave a post your link will appear beneath it. As you gain credibility on these websites the number of people who view your link will rise. Doing this a few times daily will not only increase your traffic, it will also give you the opportunity to meet others with similar goals to your own.

Ad Swaps
Ad swaps are another great way to increase traffic to your website. An ad swap involves you finding another web publisher who is looking to ad swap as well and then trading ads to host on each others websites. I recommend agreeing the the length of time the ads are displayed before you host the ads, this will avoid complications and the potential loss of a good business partner. The higher the web traffic to your site, the higher the number of publishers wanting to swap ads will be. You can think of it as a ladder and each ad swapped is another rung you’ve climbed. The number of times you do this is up to you, I personally recommend swapping ads every week.

Partnerships
Partnerships are essentially business agreements between you and another website. These often involve simple link trading, repeated ad swaps, subscriptions, and content sharing. In order to share content your partner will need to have a site similar to yours but not identical. Some forms of content sharing are a weekly tips column, recommendations, sharing a questions and answers forum, or even developing a free e-book that benefits both you, your partner, and the visitors of both sites.
