Writing Your First Wordpress Post
Posted on 18. Mar, 2009 by admin in Guides

This is a simple, yet effective, quick-start guide to navigating the page elements of WordPress in order to post your first post.
Your first step is to simply to find the “Post” button, this will navigate you to a page where you will be able to enter a post, convenient right? If you do not see a “Post” option, you are most likely in the wrong area. Please return to your admin panel located at www.yoursite.com/blog/wp-admin/, replace the example site and directory with your own. After you have found your post entry page, please refer to the following image.
(as long as you can read the numbers you will be fine)

1) When you first start up with your blog, there will be no defined “categories”. These categories are a simple way to organize your posts for both yourself and your site visitors. To add a category, simply click “Categories” and you will see a large content area titled “Add Category”. The only necessary part is the name, the remaining fields are optional.
2) Before you publish your post you need to choose a category from the categories list you have created using Step 1. Multiple categories may be selected.
3) The “More” option is a very useful tool for keeping your main page under control. Without it the entire content of a post would be displayed on the home page, making the “read more” option obsolete. To use the more button, simply click in the post where you want the post to end on the homepage, then click the more button.
4) This one explains itself, its simply a preview of how your post will be displayed.
5) This one is also self explanatory, it posts your post for the world to see.
